Approximately 1 in 3,600 babies are diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH is when the diaphragm has an incomplete formation or a hole in it. With an open diaphragm, organs such as the stomach, liver, spleen and intestines can travel through into the chest cavity preventing full development of the lungs, ultimately making it difficult for a baby to survive following birth.
